Firstly, I’m delighted to have found your work on here that has made me think about a book (not necessarily this book, but I’m rather glad it is!) in so much detail.

I’m also glad that I started reading this book independently (I moved to Yorkshire and so it was the obvious choice of authors!) before I knew there was a film. So of course, finding about the film being released, I have just pre-booked tickets for the screening in February but now I’m not sure ! It sounds like it will be quite a departure from the novel?

Hmmm! Reading your post about the film earlier today, I was rather disappointed to see how it had been adapted. I will definitely have finished it (although I’m taking your advice and savouring it having always been a bit of a skimmer when a book picks up pace and then regretting it). I confess to having a peak at the first part of the 1939 film but haven’t spoilt it for myself ha!

Laurence Olivier is *always* worth your time--he's terribly handsome. ♡

Oh Dawn...you know...I never planned to see the film (after seeing who was cast as Catherine). I assumed it would displease me.

Then, the trailer came out and it was so ridiculously sexual it was half-amusing/half-appalling. I literally called my mom and spoke to my in-laws to warn them that the material I've devoted years to publicly studying is *not* soft porn. LOL Still, I thought perhaps I was wrong...but then I read the interviews with Emerald Fennell and realized she, in fact, wants it to be that way--she wanted to make an outrageous adaptation.

When the trailer and commercials first came out I wrote about my thought on IG and I was happy to see that it seems the 'legacy' members of the Brontë Parsonage crowd appear to agree with me--I don't think they are happy about the film but recognize it will drive people to the museum, so it must be tolerated. You'll have to let me know your thoughts...will you have completed the novel by the time you see it?
